Having worked as a General Manager in hotels for 15 years I have thorough and firsthand knowledge of the types of challenges that can be faced in the unique industry that is hospitality.
Hospitality is a fast moving, ever changing and highly stressful industry. This can put employers and employees under great physical and mental pressure.
Fatigue and burn out is a common factor for hospitality workers and can not only be personally damaging but can flow on to their work productivity and family life.
Working long hours, split shifts and peak times with high staff turnover and the casual employment nature of the industry bring with it unique stressors and pressures.
Due to the nature of the industry critical incidents are not uncommon. These can be in the form of an abusive customer, an armed hold up, a death or serious injury or a violent occurrence. It is imperative that employers take these traumatic incidents seriously as they can be costly, financially and emotionally, for both the business and employee.
These are some of the areas I can help hospitality workers with:

- Financial Management

Pre and Post Pregnancy
Pregnancy, Pregnancy Loss, Fertility and Abortion can at times bring uncertainty, anxiety, grief, body changes, loneliness and many more feelings that you may not be sure how to deal with. These experiences can have a big impact on both parents emotionally and physically.
Miscarriage, stillbirth, fertility issues and abortion can all bring feelings of fear, guilt, disappointment and deep pain. It can help to talk to someone confidentially and take as long as you need to explore and work through your options and these feelings.
These challenges can also bring Relationship Stress and communication break downs. This is very common as pregnancy can bring challenges in careers, finances, health and may also have you question your relationship. We can work through these together and find the best solutions and coping strategies for you to move forward.
The birth of a baby is not always a magical experience and both parents can feel shocked, overwhelmed and traumatised by the experience to the severity of developing Post-Traumatic Stress. It can take time to heal these feelings and I can work with you through these.
Post-Natal Depression can be part of your journey and I am here to help. If you aren’t feeling connected, are teary, stressed, angry, depressed or just not feeling yourself we can deal with this together. For those with indicators of pre-disposition to post-natal depression (depression, anxiety etc) research has shown a decrease in occurrence and severity for those who attended pre-natal counselling and learnt tools of self-care, coping techniques, communication techniques, setting of expectations and much more.
*** I am available to speak or hold workshops in mother’s groups, community centers, pre-natal classes or similar.
Weight Loss Surgery (Bariatric Surgery)
Weight Loss Surgery can be a big time of change in a person’s life journey which can stir up many emotions and challenges in adjusting to your new lifestyle. For some people friends and family may not be the correct support and you may find it beneficial to discuss your journey with someone else and get the support you need.
It can help to explore the reasons and expectations around each surgery as well as deal with any doubts, body image issues, anxiety, fears or emotions you have around this type of procedure prior to proceeding.
Weight loss surgery is not always understood by all and learning communication techniques can be useful when explaining your choice of surgery to family and friends in a way that you are comfortable with.
Can be an adjustment in many ways; how you manage your recovery, how you mentally and emotionally cope with your new food requirements as well as how you manage exercise and reaching your goals to ensure you are successful.
For many food has been an addiction in one form or another and even after a restrictive procedure this can be a battle of the mind which you may find easier not going it alone.
Some people adjust easily and quickly to their new way of life and for others it can be a process over a number of months or years.
I look forward to supporting you in making this a successful journey.
